Join the Sonoran Joint Venture, the Friends of the San Pedro River, the Bureau of Land Managment, the Coronado National Forest, and many other groups for guided walks, talks, workshops, hands-on activities for people of all ages, donkey and carriage rides, hummingbird banding, and much more!

Join Friends of the San Pedro River docent and Coronado National Forest wildlife biologist for a morning bird walk along the river.

Beginning bird and nature walk

Beavers and Birds hike

Led by Mike Foster and Glenn Johnson

Be sure to wear good hiking shoes, bring plenty of water, suncreen, and a hat, and be prepared for warm temperatures. This hike is not appropriate for small children.

Information tables and activity set up under tent

Visit information tables hosted by a variety of conservation, education, and outreach groups doing work in the area.

Birds, Banding, and Migration talk

Led by Jennie Duberstein and Heather Swanson

Learn about the amazing journeys migratory birds make and how we study these long-distance wonders.

10am-1pm Book signing Betty Foster Escapule Betty Foster Escapule will sign copies of her book, The Five Fosters. Meet the author and hear about her life growing up in what is now the San Pedro House

11am-12pm

20th Anniversary Celebration of San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area

Led by the Bureau of Land Management and the Friends of the San Pedro River

The SPRNCA was the first riparian national conservation area in the United States. A special ceremony will celebrate 20 years of protecting this unique and very important ecosystem.

12-12:45pm

Lunch; music, donkey rides

Free pizza and drinks with a donation to Friends of the San Pedro River; live music from the Arthritis Brothers Band; donkey rides

1-2pm

Dedication and tour of xeriscape garden

Led by Ted Mouras, President, Friends of the San Pedro River

Come join us for this special tour of the new San Pedro House xeriscape garden and water catchment system. Learn how you can plan a native plant garden for birds and wildlife in your own neighborhood.

1-3pm Book signing/reading Tucson author and SJV Coordinator Robert Mesta Robert will read his new children's book, Condor: Spirit of the Canyon, and will sign and sell copies of the book.
2-3pm
Backyard Habitat Workshop
Led by Phil Tucker, Wild Birds Unlimited, Sierra Vista
Join Wild Birds Unlimited store owner Phil Tucker to learn about how to turn your yard into a Certified Backyard Habitat that not only brings song, color, and life to your home but also benefits wild birds in your neighborhood. Design a backyard you will enjoy and help Mother Nature at the same time.

4-6pm

Hummingbird banding demonstration

Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory

Join SABO naturalists to learn about these amazing birds!
