Description: Introduce your students to the fascinating wildlife and natural history of the Sonoran Desert by exploring the Desert Museum! Your science curriculum comes to life as students tour the grounds getting close-up views of desert animals, plants, and geologic features. As you guide your students through the Museum, you'll encounter docents conducting interactive interpretations.

K-6 Discovery Classes (E/1)
Dates: Monday-Friday, 1 September 2005 through 27 May 2005
Length: 45 minutes
Students: 30 Maximum
Cost: $100/program plus additional $2 admission fee per person
Description: Using live animals, museum artifacts, and interactive demonstrations, these hands-on programs focus on desert life to provide an introduction to various natural history topics in ASDM classrooms.

High School Programs (E/3)
Dates: Monday-Friday, 1 September 2005 through 27 May 2005
Length: 90 minutes
Students: 30 Maximum
Cost: $150/program plus additional $2 admission fee per person
Description: Choose from one of three programs:

  1. Museum Careers: From animal keeper and horticulturist to graphic designer and director of human resources, discover the many exciting careers at a living museum such as the Desert Museum. After an introduction in a museum classroom to a variety of careers and a visit with one of our desert creatures, students tour behind the scenes. Students learn about the important skills that they'll need for their career goals.
  2. Adapt or Die!: Desert plants and animals display a fascinating variety of adaptations that help them thrive here. Take a guided tour to explore how plants deal with the temperature extremes and aridity of their desert home. Then meet some live desert animals and identify their secrets to success as desert dwellers.
  3. Threatened and Endangered Species: The Sonoran Desert is home to many plants and animals found nowhere else on earth, and some of these native species are in trouble! Meet some of these species of concern, learn about their habitat requirements and identify and discuss changes that are causing some to disappear. Find out what you can do to help.

Description: Gray Hawk Nature Center, located on the San Pedro River in Sierra Vista, Arizona, offers a wide array of programs, all of which are geared to instill in each person a sense of conservation and stewardship for our natural world. Topics include birds, the San Pedro River, reptiles and amphibians, insects, and more. Overnight stays are also available. Programs can also be tailored to suite the needs of your group.

Located on Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge on beautiful San Diego Bay, the Chula Vista Nature Center is an internationally recognized zoo/aquarium exhibiting plants and animals native to San Diego Bay and marsh/wetland habitats. Take a field trip for an up-close and personal visit with shorebirds, hawks, sharks, stingrays, and jelly fish, to name a few!
