SJV Communications, Education, and Outreach Program

Education is critical in the long-term conservation of birds and habitats. The Sonoran Joint Venture recognizes this and strives to provide appropriate education and outreach materials and opportunities for our partners and anyone interested in learning more about the amazing diversity of the SJV region and its importance to birds and other wildlife.

Specific goals of the SJV's Communications, Education, and Outreach Program include:

  • Effectively communicating the biological, social, cultural, and economic value of birds and their habitats.
  • Encouraging active stewardship of birds and their habitats and promote positive natural resource management practices in the SJV region.
  • Providing training and education opportunities for biologists, educators, landowners, and the general public.
  • Increasing opportunities for partners and the public to become involved in bird conservation within the SJV region.
  • Increasing the number of birding trips to the SJV area and assisting with improving the economic effects of avitourism to local communities.

SJV Communications, Education, and Outreach Committee
The SJV Communications, Education, and Outreach Committee (CEOC) works with the Education and Outreach Coordinator to guide the development and implementation of the SJV's education and outreach program. Committee members' diverse experiences, skills, and talents help ensure that the SJV meets the needs of its partners and others working toward bird conservation in the SJV region.

The CEOC is currently in the process of developing a strategic plan to help guide the SJV's efforts in this area. Contact Jennie Duberstein if you'd like to be involved in this process or would like to sit on the CEOC.
